The families of men in addiction carry a particular exhaustion. You have been let down enough times to be wary of hope, and you are still here, still trying, which is its own kind of strength. You also probably have your own anger, guilt, and questions that nobody has helped you with.
Step One does not treat family as an afterthought or a visiting policy. The people in a man’s life are often the reason he stays in recovery, and they deserve support of their own.
