Meeting People Where They Are
Living with a personality disorder can mean recurring conflict, difficulty trusting others, and emotions that feel hard to manage. As a result, relationships may repeatedly break down, leaving a man feeling misunderstood, rejected, or alone. Over time, these struggles can affect work, family life, and self-worth.
Even when he wants connection, expressing his needs, handling disagreements, or maintaining boundaries may feel difficult. Meanwhile, loved ones may struggle to understand his reactions, adding frustration on both sides. For some men, alcohol or drugs become a way to cope; however, substance use can deepen the conflict and make rebuilding trust more difficult.
Treatment offers an opportunity to understand these recurring patterns and practice healthier responses. With support, men can work on managing emotions, communicating clearly, and building more stable relationships while also addressing substance use.
How Step One Treats It
Step One combines structured residential care with evidence-based therapy, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), to help men manage intense emotions, strengthen coping skills, and improve relationships. When substance use is also present, treatment addresses both concerns together.
Why Step One
Integrated Personality Disorder Care
Treatment addresses personality disorders alongside substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions, creating one coordinated plan for recovery.
Licensed Clinical Oversight
Licensed clinicians and on-staff nursing provide individualized care, therapeutic support, and ongoing clinical guidance throughout residential treatment.
Healthier Patterns for the Future
Individual therapy, group counseling, coping skills, and peer accountability help men develop healthier relationships, improve emotional regulation, and build a stronger foundation for lasting recovery.
